A devore finish is one that is used on velvet or other pile fabrics. It is a resist technique where the fabric is coated with a chemical paste in a pattern. Where it is coated the chemical burns off the pile of the fabric leaving a pattern in relief on top of the mesh warp of the original fabric. This sumptuous finish gives a real sense of body to a fabric and allows it to flow and fold in a different way from other fabrics. The technique is often used in conjunction with a printed pattern to create a fabric with a double pattern.
