First, you need to have the following things in cutting your own hair: (1) a pair of sharp hair scissors preferably salon scissors which you can purchase from any beauty retail stores; (2) comb; (3) towel; (4) spray bottle; (5) powder.

When you have the above materials ready, then you are all set cutting your own hair. These are the simple procedures and tips that you can easily follow:

1. Shampoo your hair, rinse well, and remove excess water with the towel. Damp hair is the best to cut. If you have already shampooed your hair, then you can simply spray your hair with water until damp.

2. Comb your hair to part it a little section at a time. Tip: You must know what hairstyle you would want to have before you part your hair section by section.

3. Taking one section, comb your hair straight to the portion where you want it cut. With the support of your fingers and the comb, start to cut half an inch of your hair at a time following the shape that you want.

4. After each half inch cut, you should check to see that you are cutting your hair according to the shape that you like. Make sure also that the cut is level.

5. It is best that you finish cutting your hair on one side before proceeding to the other side matching the desired length. Otherwise, you will run the risk of cutting your hair more than what you want.

6. For a layered look, the procedure is similar except that the sectioning of your hair shall be of varying length then cut each section sharply.
